Member Guide & Code of Conduct

Mission

LatinX in AI (LXAI) bridges communities, academics, industry, and politicians working to further AI innovation and resources for LatinX individuals globally. We host research workshops at AI academic conferences, drive and support research, development, mentoring, and infrastructure programs to boost innovation and capabilities of Latinx identified people working in Artificial Intelligence worldwide.

Tenets

In order to carry out our mission as a community, we’ve proposed the following tenets for our organization and its members:

  • Increase representation of Latinx in Artificial Intelligence

  • Improve access to education and resources in AI research and engineering

  • Improve awareness of the long and short term effects of artificial intelligence

  • Increase communication between companies and LatinX AI engineers and researchers

  • Ensure transparency and accuracy of latinx culture and voice in data representations

Vocabulary

The terms LatinX and Artificial Intelligence have both gained in popularity over the last decade with mixed use, interest, and disagreements to their validity or true meaning.

For the purpose of the LatinX in AI Organization and the LXAI Member Forum, we use the definition of these terms as published by credible and experienced lexicographers as follows:

Artificial Intelligence (noun):

The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.

Latinx (adjective):

Relating to people of Latin and Latin American origin or descent (used as a gender-neutral or non-binary alternative to Latino or Latina).

Forum

This forum has been created for latinx identifying students, post-docs, academic and industry researchers and engineers, and allies working in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

The forum is intended to be a place for further collaboration, support, and brainstorming. This is a civilized place for connecting with other members, learning new skills, sharing feedback and ideas, and finding all the support you need for your work. By becoming an LXAI Member, you are agreeing to our Terms of Service and this Code of Conduct.

We will investigate any abuse reports and may moderate public content within the forum that we determine to be in violation of either the Terms of Service or this Code of Conduct.

LXAI Members worldwide bring wildly different perspectives, ideas, and experiences, and range from people who wrote their first line of code last week to the most well-known researchers and engineers in the world. We are committed to making LatinX in AI and the LXAI Member Forum a welcoming environment for all the different voices and perspectives here, while maintaining a space where people are free to express themselves.
